ECKER CENTER DEVELOPMENT & PR MANAGER, MARY ANN STEPHENS,
WINS RACIAL JUSTICE AWARD

Mary Ann Stephens, Development & PR Manager for the Ecker Center for Mental Health, has been given the Elgin YWCA’s 2007 Racial Justice Award.  Mary Ann was nominated by Jaynita Wise for her leadership and for piloting innovative programs for women's financial literacy for the Illinois State Treasurer's office.  Her leadership includes social justice as well, as she has been both an advocate and volunteer for the mentally ill, mentally challenged and physically handicapped.  Mary Ann also serves with African American, Hispanic and Asian representatives on a legislative steering committee that offers input and research assistance to State Representative Ruth Munson, and she has been involved in multiple Elgin Hispanic Network activities.
